This US History course covers the formation of British North American colonies; the formation of the United States as a political institution; the United States Constitution and the founding of American government to the Civil War. Beginning on the African Continent, this course will also examine the origins of the Atlantic Slave Trade and its implications for North American labor systems, including slavery; pay particular attention to the ways in which black people have influenced the forma- tion and development of this nation; examine the ways in which racial issues have shaped American society, culture, and politics.
