HIST 110 - History of the United States II

History 110 introduces students to the history of the United States from 1865 to the present. The economic, political, intellectual, cultural and social aspects of history are covered, and the course is designed to further students' general education by introducing the ideas, attitudes, and institutions of the world. Organization is primarily chronological and thematic. The aim of this course is to develop each student’s comprehensive understanding of crucial historical events by applying context and causation rather than simply regurgitating “facts” and dates.

MATH 180 - Calculus and Analytic Geometry I

MATH 180 is Calculus and Analytic Geometry I, the first course in the calculus sequence. It includes limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications. In general, calculus is the study of change.

MATH 126 - Precalculus I: College Algebra

Math 126 covers advanced algebra topics including functions and their properties. Students in this course study a variety of different types of functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic). Each type of function is studied in depth including their graphs and applications. Students in this course also study inverse functions, systems of equations, and polynomial and rational inequalities.

MATH 161 - Differential and Integral Calculus I

Calculus I includes limits, continuity, the concept of the derivative, differentiation rules, and applications of the derivative, including curve sketching, extremum problems, L’Hopital’s rule, implicit differentiation, related rates, Mean Value Theorem, introduction to integration, fundamental theorem of calculus, and substitution.

PS 1 - AMERICAN GOVERNMENT

This course provides a survey of the principles, personalities, problems, and issues of government at the national, state and local levels. Topics include the U.S. Constitution; federalism and state constitutions, with special emphasis on California; political ideologies; political parties, interest groups and elections; the legislature; the presidency and the federal bureaucracy; the judiciary; and domestic and foreign policy making.

POLS 102 - Introduction to American Government & Politics

Examines the workings of our complex system of American government, including: national, California state, and local levels (with emphasis on the national level). This survey will focus on the historical and contemporary development of our Constitution, political institutions, citizen participation, politics, and policies. Examines the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to significant problems in contemporary America. Transfer: Transfers to both UC/CSU

HIST 117 - History of U.S to 1876

American civilization through the Civil War era. Native American and European antecedents will be studied. Colonial and revolutionary periods will be analyzed as well as the formation of a new nation. Gender and race issues will be examined in light of nation building. Transfer: Transfers to both UC/CSU

SPA 220 - The American Constitution

This course focuses on the major aspects of American constitutional law and development: the separation of powers in the American political system; the distribution of power between the federal government and the states; government power to regulate economic and property interests; and development of civil rights and liberties. Some of the most important decisions the Supreme Court has made across the spectrum of constitutional law are examined, and the relationship between law, politics, and society is also explored.
