Date Reviewed

POL S 101 is an introduction to the principles, institutions, policies, and politics of government in the United States and California.

POL S 101 provided an in-depth exploration of the U.S. Constitution, including detailed readings and discussions of the document itself. The course examined fundamental constitutional principles and provisions such federalism and separation of powers, as well as a thorough discussion of civil liberties and rights established through constitutional amendments. Later in the course, we explored current events under the lens of the constitution, giving the document further relevance to our everyday lives.
Furthermore, the course satisfies the CSU American Institutions graduation requirement in two of the three areas: US-2 (United States Constitution and Government) and US-3 (California state and local government). As CSU graduates automatically meet this prerequisite through their completion of the American Institutions graduation requirement, this course should satisfy the prerequisite as well.
