Examines constitutional history after the New Deal settlement of issues concerning the powers of the national government. Explores the court’s focus after 1953 on the struggle over racial and gender equality and on the expansion and protection of indi- vidual liberties contained in the Bill of Rights. The main materials of the course are the major court opin- ions from the Warren to the Rehnquist courts, 1953- 2001.
