Credential Course Equivalency

A survey of American history from pre-contact North America to 1877 with an emphasis on the evaluation of primary and secondary sources in order to enhance the student's ability to critically evaluate various interpretations of U.S. history and gain insight into the historical past. More specifically, the objective is to understand the significance of the following events in the nation’s founding: western European colonialism; causes and consequences of the war of independence; the framework and context of the Constitution; the formative years of the new Republic; the rise of political parties; the impact of westward expansion, industrialization and economic development; the implications of slavery; the Civil War and Reconstruction.
