The primary goal of this course is to trace the theoretical foundations and approaches that underlie the study of cognitive, physical, social, and emotional stages of human development from birth through adolescence within the diverse culture of modern-day America. Only by appreciating the impact of the home, school, and society on the genetic and temperamental factors of the child and the adolescent can we understand our ability to support their strong mental and physical health.
