In this course we will examine the psychological and educational research literature on resilience as it pertains to children and adolescents. We will give special attention to family, school, and community assets or protective factors as these relate to risks and challenges that youth encounter in school, in the community, in peer interactions, and at work. Our goal will be to understand how developmental assets can be used to create healthy schools and communities that enhance the life qualities of at-risk children and youth. Class readings and discussions focus on the development of a positive psychology in the lives of young people.
