1. To become familiar with the theories and developmental processes pertaining to early and middle childhood. 2. To learn about the biological, emotional, social, and cognitive functioning from early childhood through middle childhood, and to understand how this early functioning effects later development. 3. To develop a practical and in-depth knowledge which allows for effective observation, interpretation, and understanding of the behavior and developmental processes from early through middle childhood. 4. To extend the knowledge about topics and research pertaining to early and middle childhood, and about how early experiences effect later development. 5. To acquire practical skills fro observing, understanding, and working with children in early and middle childhood. 6. To develop a greater awareness and understanding of oneself and the factors and forces that have shaped one's growth and development.
