This course surveys the political, economic, cultural, social, and intellectual development of the United States. The course
emphasizes the interactions among Europeans, Africans, and American Indians in North America beginning with European colonization, through the creation of the U.S. Republic, its expansion west, and the developments leading up to the Civil War and Reconstruction. Along with History 017B, it meets the District requirement in Unites States History and Constitution and State and local government.
