This course presents applications of techniques and concepts of intermediate algebra and critical thinking to the solving of contemporary problems in mathematics. Emphasis is placed on statistics, finance, and voting/apportionment. Other topics may include sets, graph theory, exponential functions, logarithmic scales, probability, geometry, or cultural aspects of mathematics. Historical context of some of the great ideas of mathematics will also be explored.
