This course is a survey of United States history from its European, African, and Native American backgrounds to 1865. The course examines the origin and development of many of this nation’s political, social, economic and intellectual institutions including their influences upon contemporary American life. These analyses also emphasize such historical concepts as cause and effect, multiple causation and historical interpretation. Approved Dec. 2010
