This course examines the nature of math- ematics and its role in society, history of mathematical ideas and methods and the use of mathematics in problem solving. The major categories of mathematics will be studied including probability, graph theory, codes and coding, and mathemat- ics as applied to the sciences, social sci- ences, and other disciplines, and to real- world consumer applications.
