MATH-170 Finite Mathematics 5 Units: 90 hours of lecture, per term, LR, DG, CSU, UC Prerequisite: MATH 120 or two years of high school algebra. Advisory: Concurrent enrollment in MATH 875N is highly recommended. This course meets the CSU General Education requirement for Area B4-Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning, and the IGETC for Area 2: Mathematical Concepts and Quantitative Reasoning. This course presents the elementary aspects of discrete probability theory, mathematics of finance, linear algebra and linear programming. Intended to strengthen the mathematical back-ground of students of the life, social and management sciences for later courses in statistics, this course is especially recommended for majors in business, biological science, and psychology. Not repeatable.
