This course examines U.S. Constitution and the U.S. system of government at the national and state levels; the course covers both U.S. and California political processes and institutions. The rights, obligations, and participation of citizens will be discussed. The course will also highlight contemporary relationships of state and local government, the resolution of conflicts and the establishment of cooperative processes under the constitutions of both the state and the nation and the political processes involved. Significant events since the American Revolution and the contributions of women and ethnic groups will also be examined. The cultural diversity of the U.S. and California will be emphasized.
